Hilary Tate is an Expatriate Tax Administrator at BDO USA, LLP. She has several years’ experience in Human Resources spanning aspects of the field from retail to Global Mobility. Prior to relocating to Charlotte in 2015, she lived in Washington D.C. Hilary began volunteering in Charlotte almost immediately with Girls on the Run, an organization she has volunteered with in multiple capacities while living in D.C. and while attending Sweet Briar College from 2008 - 2012. She found Social Venture Partners in 2017 and became an advocate for PlateShare's mission not long afterward.
Hilary hopes that launching PlateShare will demonstrate to Charlotteans enjoying our high caliber restaurant scene that small change, makes BIG change. When not at her day job or working on PlateShare, Hilary puts her RYT200 Yoga Teacher certification to use at CorePower Yoga's Charlotte studios.
Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Mr. Hummer arrived in Charlotte in 2006, joining Carolinas HealthCare System, now Atrium Health, in 2006. Prior to Atrium Health, he held hospital and physician group practice administration positions in Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Southern California, Minnesota and Kansas.
Mr. Hummer serves as a Senior Vice President at Atrium. In this capacity he serves as President, Atrium Health Pineville, a 250-bed regional medical center located in south Charlotte. He directs the strategic, clinical, and operating activities of the hospital which also includes CMC-Steele Creek, a freestanding emergency department. He also serves as President of its Southern Division where he is responsible for identifying opportunities for Atrium in its South Market, coordinating the organization’s resources to improve the health status of the communities it serves.
Mr. Hummer’s other duties include Atrium Health Cleveland and Kings Mountain hospitals, and service line responsibility for Emergency Services which includes 10 hospital-based emergency departments and 6 freestanding emergency departments.
Additionally, he is involved in North Carolinas Healthcare Association, serving as past Chair of North Carolina Hospital Association’s HOSPAC Board and previously served a three-year term on its Policy Development Committee. He also serves on American Hospital Association’s Region Three Policy Board.
Additionally, he is a member of Winthrop University’s Healthcare Management Curriculum Advisory Board. He also is past Chair, Social Venture Partners, Charlotte Chapter, Health & Wellness Committee.
Mr. Hummer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism & Mass Communications from Kansas State University and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Kansas.
Gary Starr is an orthodontist who has practiced in the Charlotte metropolitan area since 1990. His education includes an undergraduate degree from Duke University, a DDS from The University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill, and an MS in Orthodontics from The University of Michigan.
Gary is deeply involved in his local community and passionate about the work he does in the area. He helped create a local chapter of the national non-profit organization, “Smile for a Lifetime,” providing free orthodontic care to low income youth. He was a member of the Board of Directors at Freedom School Partners, which serves at-risk students and families in Charlotte. He also tutored at risk youth as a Reading Partner and is a Heart Math tutor. Gary loves doing his part to support education as a means to building a better, stronger community. As a member of Social Venture Partners since 2016, he has been active with Seed 20 and the implementation of PlateShare.
Finally, Gary is a proud dad of three children who are all engaged in meaningful pursuits. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, listening to music, learning to play guitar, playing golf, meditating, practicing yoga, cooking, cheering on the Carolina Panthers and Blue Devils, and spending time with family and friends.
Since moving to Charlotte in 2005, Tammi has served the community in a variety of roles. For more than ten years, Tammi has been a driver for Friendship Trays, delivering meals to the elderly and those in need. During that time, she has also served as a Provisional/Transfer Assistant for the Mecklenburg County board of Elections at her local precinct. In addition, she has volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem – serving as a voice for children who have ended up in the court system, usually due to abuse or drugs in the home. In 2011, Tammi organized Pancakes for a Purpose, which continues to be an annual event, to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research. In 2017, Tammi joined the Charlotte chapter of Social Venture Partners to find more opportunities to give of her time and talents within the local community.
Prior to moving to Charlotte, Tammi was an elementary school teacher and a private tutor. She retired from teaching to become a part owner of a telecommunications company. She also spent several years in advertising sales. Tammi is currently using her experience as an elementary school educator to teach English online to children in China.
Tammi attended Virginia Tech and earned a BS in Early Childhood Education from James Madison University.
